This just happened to me when I upgraded to iTunes 8.2! They are trying to charge me $70.82 for MUSIC I ALREADY PAID FOR!

But the music I previously purchased is missing from my iTunes library… 259 songs! Now what? They are ripping me off!

seriously though, you are far more upstanding than i am… its just hard for the scrooge in me to pay money for something i can get for free SO easily (and faster and more conveniently). i wish it wasnt so, i honestly do reminisce about the fun record store days, because that in itself was a cool culture. but man… FREE? i cant rationalize it in my head to pay for something i can get for free. like ol jim gaffigan says “i know i can get water free from any faucet…but, uh, i wanna pay for it!…got any air back there?”

i have no problem paying for it as long as EVERYONE has to pay for it. then i wont feel like im a giant sucker. thats an uphill battle for sure.

this is also why i dont use apple stuff.

Yeah, that does sort of suck too. that’s why it’s always a great idea to back up your music to an external hard drive, spread it over your mp3 devices, and maybe even upload it to the Internet (if you have a server).

yar totally agree! grr, another thing that pisses me off (in the UK not sure if its in US as well) is that if your computer breaks and you loose all your music, upon signing into your itunes account, even though they have a record of you buying the songs, you have to pay 25p (about a 3rd of the original price) each to download them again! what the diddley is that about? hmm oh well.

That really is a great lecture. I’ve read that after the lecture became so widely circulated, the Pittsburgh Steelers let him play in one of their practices, and JJ Abrams gave him a line in the new Star Trek movie…so he’s gone even further towards achieving his “childhood dreams.”
